Urban Nomad Redux

Compact, efficient and optionally mobile, micro-dwellings have been around for some time. As the the “less is more” lifestyle is gaining momentum, they are making bigger waves nowadays and it’s exciting to see people actually build their own, like this replica of a 50-year-old design constructed by Glasgow School of Art student Alex Farmer, who based it on architect Ken Issac’s original 8-foot Microhouse concept from the 1960s.

hwang kim: urban homeless cocoon

korean product designer and student of the royal college of art hwang kim seeks to help the homeless population by distributing a folding portable urban shelter made from cardboard. the project entitled ‘cocoon’ is made from pre-folded single ply cardboard with plastic buttons that can be reduced to a smaller, flattened and more transport friendly shape.

Forgotten Legends In the Land Of The Hyper Surreal

Alex McLeod is a Canadian 3D artist who uses digital tools to create hyper surreal landscapes, which will have an air of uncanny familiarity to anyone who’s ever virtually set foot inside a video game. Shiny digital surfaces coat the bulbous, soft geometry of a Super Mario World background, and castles lie barricaded on top of their foam kingdoms.
